Laura Muir took another massive step towards Rio as she stormed to a new Scottish mile record and became the second-fastest Briton in the all-time rankings.
Her time of 4 minutes 19.12 seconds surpassed Yvonne Murray’s 4.22.60 set 22 years ago and closed in on Zola Budd’s 4.17.57.
The 23-year-old, who is bullding up to the British trials in Birmingham, finished second behind Faith Kipyegon, after another fine race.
Muir was in touch with the Kenyan until halfway down the final straight when Kipyegon’s speed gave her revenge for a defeat in the 1500m in Oslo last year and saw her finish in 3.59.71.
Afterwards Muir, tweeted her thanks to Jenny Meadows “for perfect pacing, an amazing job”. She added: “Delighted with my run tonight and to break the Scottish record over the Mile.”
